Vietnam: when your child's Korean father disappears
The same Korean court process applies to Vietnamese mothers, whether you live in Vietnam or in Korea.
If you live in Korea
- Call Danuri 1577-1366 and choose Vietnamese. It is free, 24 hours a day, and can connect you to free lawyer consultations.
- Low-income foreign residents can apply to the Korea Legal Aid Corporation (132) for free representation.
- If you were married to him in Korea, the divorce court can decide custody and child support at the same time.
If you live in Vietnam
- Contact the Korean Embassy in Hanoi or the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for document questions.
- A Korean lawyer can file the case for you; you may not need to travel. Ask whether DNA samples can be collected in Vietnam.
- Prepare your child's birth certificate (Giấy khai sinh) with a certified translation.
